Exo Gonia, Santorini    Exo Gonia, Santorini island

Exo Gonia Village

In tiny Exo Gonia you are in another world entirely, with nothing to remind you that you're actually on the most tourist-infested island in the Aegean.

In the evening people gather in the courtyards of the houses, grannies sit gossiping on the stoops, friendly dogs rub against your legs.

If a quiet evening is what you want, then Exo Gonia, built on a slope behind Pyrgos, is just the place. Drop in to the hamlet's only for supper, and enjoy the view towards the sea and the flat land where the airport lies. You can either come down from Pyrgos or snake up the sandy road from Kamari, which continues on to Perissa.

Leave your car in the square by the church, and stroll through the narrow lanes with their few fine houses. At present there is no hotel, but after the success of the Zannos Melathron in Pyrgos, some people are beginning to look at the village's neo classical villas with a new eye.
